The CYPW Level 3 Diploma Early Years Educator is accredited by ICQ.  This OFSTED-recognised qualification is ideal for learners seeking the skills and knowledge needed for a career involving the care and education of young children.  It is appropriate for the following job roles:-

Nursery Worker/Supervisor - Often working in a supervisory role (but not necessarily) within a nursery/early learning and childcare setting, providing care for young children

Nursery Nurse / Nursery Teaching Assistant Delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage within a maintained school setting

Candidates undertaking this qualification will also undertake Maths and English and ICT at an appropriate level.

Childcare is a competitive industry, and employers increasingly look for job applicants holding nationally recognised qualifications. There is strong demand for caring, skilled individuals to work with young children in a variety of settings, from playgroups and nurseries to schools.

Completing our Level 3 Diploma will show you have been trained to the highest standards and are equipped with the best early years training available.

Upon achievement of all elements of the framework you will attain fully-qualified status in the sector, as well as a license and the right to practice as an Early Years Educator.


Course content

Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner (Early Years Educator) You will be required to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of early years education and care, including supporting  and promoting children's early education and developments, plan and provide effective care, teaching and learning which enables children to progress and prepares them for school, make accurate and productive use of assessment, develop effective and informed practice, safeguard and promote the health, safety and welfare of children, work in partnership with the key person, colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals.

Compulsory topics include: 
• child development 
• professional development 
• safeguarding children 
• diversity, equality and inclusion 
• positive behaviour and transitions 
• working in partnership 
• promoting children’s speech, language and communication 
• theories underpinning practice 
• supporting children’s activities. 

Candidates undertaking this qualification will also undertake Level 2 Maths and English and ICT unless acceptable exemptions are provided.

This is a competency based qualification and evidence is gathered by the candidate as you undertake your normal work role. This will form the basis for your portfolio. The evidence must reflect policies and procedures of the work place as stated by current government legislation.

A range of assessment methods will be used by the assessor including examining work products and expert witness testimonies and direct observation. An assessor will visit you in the workplace and undertake observations of you at work. These will be planned in advance in order to cause the minimum disruption to your work routine and to try to capture as much information as possible in one visit.

Knowledge based units will be assessed using a range of methods including reflective accounts, projects, assignments, assessor questions and professional discussions.

You will have full access to assessor support via telephone, email, Skype and web links.  Our Offices are open Monday to Friday 9:00am to 17:00pm if you need to speak to someone about your course.

You will be awarded a Nationally Recognised Qualification accredited by ICQ.  Upon achievement of all elements of the framework you will attain fully-qualified status in the sector, as well as a license and the right to practice as an Early Years Educator.

Once complete you may be interested in progressing onto the Level 5 Higher Diploma in Leadership and Management in Children and Young people Settings.

52 - 78 weeks

You will be provided with a log in to the SCT website lending access to the course resources. 

You will undergo regular evaluation sessions with trainers and managers. And participate in a variety of activities including Q&A sessions, practical observations, and professional discussions, you will also be asked to complete a number of activities in-between visits to build confidence and competence in the knowledge, skills and behaviours areas.

Do I need to be employed to do this course?

Yes, you do need to be employed in an appropriate job role and workplace to receive funding for this course. If you are not currently employed in a relevant job role or workplace to your desired qualification please check out our Commercial or Short Courses.

When am I going to see my assessor?

Once you have been fully enrolled you will hear from your assessor within 7 working days.  Your assessor will arrange to meet with you at your workplace.  It might also be a good idea to invite your employer to attend this meeting so that they are also aware of the expectations of your assessor.  Your assessor will let you have their contact details and will be able to provide remote support in between meetings.

How long does it take to get my certificates?

Once you have successfully passed all elements of your framework you can expect to receive your certificates in 3-4 weeks.

Can I complete my course quicker than 12 months?

Funded Apprentices must undertake a minimum of 365 days in training before you can undertake end point assessment.  If you have a requirement to undertake the course in a shorter timeframe please consider our commercial opportunities where duration can be learner led.

Can I complete more than one course at once?

You can only complete one funded course at a time.  It is not recommended to undertake more than one course at once but should this need arise please speak to a member of the team who can advise you further.

What happens if I change my job or my employer?

Don’t worry!  If you change your employer we can follow you to your new employer (with their approval of course).  If you change job role let us know also as we may be able to deliver something more appropriate to your new role.  It’s important you keep in touch and we can facilitate.
